What Is the PTA?
The Huntley Hills Parent-Teacher Association is a voluntary organization of parents, teachers and school staff. When you participate in PTA family events, support fundraisers, or help out as a volunteer, you are making a great contribution to your child’s education. Not only are you supporting your school, but you are also setting an important example for your child. When children see their parents participate in our school, they develop trust, understanding of the value of education, and a desire to learn that will last a lifetime.
Participating in events and helping out with the PTA is also a great way for parents to get to know other parents, children, and teachers.
The Huntley Hills PTA is also part of the GA PTA and the National PTA, non-profit, non-partisan organizations that advocate on behalf of children and schools.
How does the PTA support our school?
• PTA Fundraisers support many activities and functions at our school:
Examples: Support funds for teachers for educational activities in classes; arts enrichment through assemblies and field trips; facilities improvements that make our school inviting; equipment for better physical education opportunities; library enhancements; teacher appreciation events; monthly family enrichment events in the evening; and so much more!
• PTA organizes parent volunteers who help with a wide range of school and family activities. PTA also helps support volunteer room parents who work closely with your child’s teacher to organize classroom enrichment events, and keep up communication and collaboration with parents.
• PTA handles school support functions that cannot be provided directly by the school, such as: managing school pictures; producing a school yearbook and school calendar; providing each family with a student directory; running a school store for kids; managing an email list-serve for vital school information; producing a school newsletter every two weeks, making courier envelopes available to parents for purchase; and more! Functions that involve parent purchases are not always fundraisers – many are simply a service that PTA provides to parents and to our school.
• PTA provides important support for parents. Raising and educating children is hard work! PTA events and volunteer opportunities help parents find friends, and get to know the kids and families that are a central part of their child’s social world.
